課程概述

在《共產主義宣言》中,馬克思在勾勒出當代階級政治的圖像。資本主義下,普羅大眾將會形成一個具有主體意識、集體行動力的群體(亦即所謂的“proletarians into a class”),這個「階級形構」的過程將會重新塑造整體社會的新風貌。在馬克思的原初設想中,工人群眾的隊伍會越來越龐大,他們的地域、族群、技能的差異性將會縮小,各種新穎的傳播與組織媒介會強化他們的一致性,民主的參與管道會提升他們的政治意識,最後,批判知識份子的投靠也帶來強而有力的觀念引導,總體結果即是工人階級革命是不可避免的歷史趨勢。
從事後來看,馬克思的預言是錯誤的,歷史並不是按照他所設想的劇本演出;工人階級有可能展現出革命的熱忱,但是在更多時候,他們的集體行動卻是有更多元的形態。儘管如此,階級形構的歷史過程仍舊留下不可抹滅的影響,無論工人本身是否能夠集結成一股有意識的力量,都是值得我們探討的。。更重要地,階級形構在不同社會所採取的相異軌跡,也成為社會學家所關切的研究問題。為了解答馬克思所遺留下的巨大歷史猜測,許多研究者分別引援不同的理論取徑,使得更多與階級形構的種種因素獲得重視。
 

課程目標
本課程將以閱讀既有的英語的研究作品主。
我們希望能夠在掌握了古典與當代的各種研究取徑之後,最終能將這些研究成果用來思索台灣的階級形構過程。因此,在閱讀內容安排上,我們先著重於不同理論途徑的辯析,接下來則是探討若干與階級形構有關的文化與政治因素,最後則是歸結到本土的研究議題。  
課程要求
這一門研究所的課程,除了講員授課以外,我期待學生自發性地提出問題,無論是針對講員的授課內容疑義,或是個人心得分享。主動提問與發表看法,不僅是學生的受教權益,也會影響課堂表現的分數。
口頭報告:指定讀物是每次授課的主要內容,希望學生能在上課前先抽空閱讀其內容。每週的讀物都要有學生負責口頭報告,並且準備簡單的書面內容。負責同學除了整理、說明讀物的內容主旨以外,更要加以評論、發表個人感想、並且彙整其他同學的隨堂心得。
隨堂心得:為了鼓勵所有同學事先閱讀的習慣,並且避免淪為只有負責口頭報告同學有讀的不良風氣。除了當週負責口頭報告的同學以外,其他上課同學都要在上課前一天21:00之前,撰寫一份不得超過300字的隨堂心得。其中需要包括兩個部分,(1)本週讀物的內容有那些啟發,可用於解釋何種現象,(2)本週讀物有那些內容是你不同意的,並且說明其理由。隨堂心得需要在指定時間前email給負責當週口頭報告的同學,逾時視為沒有繳交。口頭報告的同學也需將彙整這些心得,並且在課堂加以回應。
讀書心得:期中與期末有兩次的「讀書心得」,每次不得少於5,000字。其內容需要是與課程指定閱讀內容有關,或其運用延伸。如果內容是完全無關,或是利用其他問的課程之報告充數,我將不予接受。如果涉及抄襲,依校規處理。第一次讀書心得報告不得晚於11/1,第二次不得晚於1/1,請用email繳交。
本課程的上課講義會在帝宇影印店製作,請同學在第一次上課時登記份數,並且自行前往購買。帝宇是在辛亥路2段155號1樓(台大校園對面),電話2736-8495。
